Principal Designer Support

The role of Principal Designer Support (or CDM Advisor to the Principal Designer) is pivotal within the framework of CDM 2015. The role exists to provide advice and support to Architects or other lead designers who take on the Principal Designer role.

The Principal Designer support role supports and assists with each legal duty of the Principal Designer, including the coordination of health and safety aspects throughout the pre-construction phase (design) of construction projects and ensures a systematic approach to health and safety design risk management.

The role supports with compiling and maintaining the Pre-Construction Information, Principal Designer’s CDM Risk Register, and the Health and Safety File, facilitating effective communication between designers and contractors, and actively promoting a proactive stance in health and safety design risk management.

Through overseeing the integration of health and safety considerations right from the project’s inception, the Advisor significantly enhances the overall health and safety of all involved in or impacted by the construction work, including operation, maintenance, and eventual demolition of the structure.
