London Discovery Centre

Simply CDM provided CDM Principal Designer support and Building Regulations Principal Designer support in relation to RIBA Stage 4 (Technical Design) of the fit-out design for a proposed life sciences facility at King’s Cross, London, working in support of RKD Architects and John Sisk & Sons.

The scope focused on coordinating fit-out technical design with regards to and health and safety design risk management and Building Regulations compliance to support safe, compliant delivery, with particular emphasis on base build / fit-out interfaces, construction sequencing, and the management of significant and residual design risks. The constrained city-centre context, with it being located opposite to Kings Cross Station, and the complexity of laboratory environments required careful consideration of access and logistics, vertical distribution routes, builders’ work requirements, and temporary works implications to ensure that foreseeable risks were identified and proportionately controlled through the Stage 4 fit-out design.
Following completion of the Stage 4 fit-out design activities, the project was postponed prior to construction for commercial/economic reasons.
